Biography

Dr. James is an accomplished anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician. Dr. James graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1979. He went on to direct the Anesthesiology Residency Program at Toledo Hospital from 1986 until 1990. Long interested in pain management, he founded Toledo Pain Services in 1992. Toledo Pain Services was later rebranded to Comprehensive Centers for Pain Management in 2008. Dr. James was made aware of a lack of quality pain management care in the Grand Junction area. After long consideration and great admiration for the area, he opened Colorado Injury and Pain Specialists in 2013. Dr. James is constantly learning and improving as a provider, and educates his staff regularly on the future of pain management. His experience and knowledge are an invaluable asset to not only Colorado Injury and Pain Specialists, but to the Grand Junction community as a whole.

Biography

Dr. Hahn received his medical degree from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, and went on to complete his residency at Case Western Reserve University. He went on to completed a fellowship at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Hahn is a recognized member of the Colorado Medical Society, American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Pain Society, International Spinal Injection Society, and American Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Hahn understands that no two patients are the same, stating “I work closely with my patients to find the most effective techniques in each individual case. Our ultimate goal as physicians is to lessen, or, if possible, cure the pain and help improve the patient’s quality of life. With over 20 years of experience in interventional pain management, Dr. Hahn is a fantastic addition to our practice.

Biography

Colorado Injury and Pain Specialists is proud to have Dr. Markewich join our practice. Originally from Saskatchewan, Canada, Dr. Markewich completed both his Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Doctorate of Medicine at Medical University of the Americas in St. Nevis. He went on to complete his residency at the University of North Carolina in 2009 and began his career at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, North Dakota. In 2011, Dr. Markewich made the decision to obtain fellowship training and was selected as a fellow in Pain Medicine at the University of North Carolina. He has become an expert in pain medicine and lectures internationally on spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pain pumps.

With his personal motto being “Do no harm,” patients can take comfort in the knowledge that Dr. Markewich will always put them first. Having had multiple pain injections himself, he is able to understand the entire experience.

In his personal time, Stephen is an avid rock climber, with summits of mountains including Mount Rainier, Cotopaxi, and Aconcagua. He is excited for the weather and mountains Grand Junction has to offer.

Biography

Dr. McCoy began her medical career in 1988 as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia. She holds a dual Masters in Nurse Administration and Nursing Education from Mountain State University in West Virginia. Dr. McCoy earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice, specializing in chronic pain management, from West Virginia University. She is certified as both a Family Nurse Practitioner and Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner. She was trained in ultrasound guidance in trigger point and joint injections at the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. With over three decades of patient care, she is an excellent addition to the Colorado Injury and Pain team.

Dr. McCoy and her husband enjoy the outdoor life that Colorado offers. They are avid hikers, bikers, and campers. They are also registered volunteers of the Colorado State Parks. They love to assist in the upkeep of such a beautiful state.

Biography

Dr. McKinney was raised in Denver, and has lived in Grand Junction for nearly 30 years. She attended Mesa State College and graduated with honors to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing. Dr. McKinney later enrolled in an accelerated nursing program at Colorado Mesa University as she continued her master’s degree and became a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Dr. McKinney has served as a nursing instructor at Colorado Mesa University and Colorado Christian University. She went on to achieve a post-master’s certificate from the University of Colorado in Women’s Health.

In her spare time, Kathy enjoys reading, cooking new recipes, hiking, four-wheeling, camping, traveling, and spending time with family. Kathy is passionate about her career, she states, “the most rewarding part of my job is being able to help people become physically capable of living their life to the fullest.”

Dr. Raker is a clinical psychologist who began seeing patients at Colorado Injury and Pain in 2020. Dr. Raker earned his doctorate in clinical psychology in 2013 from Argosy University in California. He continued Postdoctoral study at Los Angeles Harbor College until becoming a Licensed Psychologist in 2016. Dr. Raker has experience formulating personalized treatment plans, treating diverse patients, and combining telehealth with in-person services. His evidence-based psychotherapy techniques include: CBT, CT, existential, interpersonal, and mindfulness components. Dr. Raker specializes in the assessment of mental health disorders including trauma and anxiety.

Biography

Amy Konieczny is a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy and has been with Colorado Injury and Pain Specialists as the Physical Therapy Clinical Director since 2016. She began her educational journey at the University of Dayton, where she graduated with a Pre-Physical Therapy Bachelor’s Degree in 2011. Amy was then accepted into the extremely selective Physical Therapy Doctoral Program at the University of Toledo. After her graduation in 2014, She joined Maumee Aquatics and Therapy. Amy joined the CIPS team in 2016 as the PT Link Clinical Director. Since joining of Colorado Injury and Pain, Amy specializes in a multidisciplinary approach that emphasizes modern physical therapy techniques, such as manual therapy, cupping, and dry needling. Amy has a reputation for maintaining excellent patient relationships through scheduling and follow ups. She listens to and cares for each individual patient and their individual needs. We are proud to have Amy at Colorado Injury and Pain Specialists as a vital member of our team.
